CCSA Member Showcase with 8 Rivers

The CCSA is delighted to host a Member Showcase with 8 Rivers on Wednesday 26th June 2024.

These member only online events feature presentations by members and offer the opportunity for members to showcase their company and activities to the wider CCSA membership, as well as providing a forum for networking.

This Member Showcase will be presented by Nick Bevan, Commercial Director – Europe for 8 Rivers on Wednesday 26 June, 14:00 – 14:45 BST (please note the timings are later than previous showcases)

The slides are available to download below, and the recording can be accessed here.

8 Rivers is a Durham, North Carolina–based climate technology company leading the energy industry towards achieving net zero. Founded in 2008, 8 Rivers is pioneering the clean energy and climate future through the invention and commercialization of infrastructure-scale technologies and projects that enable the global energy transition. The 8 Rivers technology portfolio includes cleantech innovations such as 8RH2, an ultra-low carbon hydrogen production technology, the Allam-Fetvedt Cycle, a transformative low-carbon power cycle, and Calcite, a hyper-efficient direct air capture process.

In May 2023, 8 Rivers launched 8RH2 its ultra-low-carbon hydrogen process that cost-effectively captures greater than 99.5% of the CO2 produced. At the heart of the process is 8 River’s decades of oxy-combustion experience and a proprietary CO2 Convective Reformer (CCR) that 8 Rivers is jointly developing with Casale SA. In contrast to conventional steam methane reforming (SMR) approaches, 8RH2 combusts natural gas with pure oxygen in a proprietary oxy-combustor, and utilizes the CO2 produced as a heat transfer medium within the CCR. Consequently, this process achieves a higher thermal efficiency than conventional reformation processes and inherently captures all of the CO2 produced, allowing for the large-scale production of ultra-low-carbon intensity hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels.

In January 2024, 8 Rivers announced Cormorant Clean Energy, located in Port Arthur, Texas, will be the first commercial deployment of the 8RH2 technology. Cormorant will produce an estimated 880,000 tonnes of ultra-low-carbon ammonia and capture more than 1.4m tonnes of CO2 annually. The project is expected to bring in over $1 billon in investment to the region. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with the project commencing operations in late 2028.

CCSA Member Showcase with GaffneyCline

Posted on: January 10th, 2024 by ccsaEditor

The CCSA was delighted to host a Member Showcase with GaffneyCline on Thursday 25th January 2024.

These member-only online events feature presentations by members and offer the opportunity for members to showcase their company and activities to the wider CCSA membership, as well as providing a forum for networking.

This Member Showcase was presented by Drew Powell, GaffneyCline’s CCS Projects’ Director in the UK covering CCS projects in the EMEA region.

GaffneyCline has undertaken over 20 due diligence studies of CCS projects, including key projects in the UK and North Sea,  considering either an entire CCS project from capture to sequestration (e.g. for an investor or a Regulator)  or the component parts of a CCS project such as sequestration alone (for an Emitter Group). GaffneyCline has therefore significant experience in the technical and commercial due diligence of CCS projects, the salient points being covered in this presentation.

Global and regional CCS project development is expanding rapidly with many projects progressing to and beyond FID. The numerous CCS projects required to meet European and Middle Eastern commitments on Net Zero generally, and carbon capture and sequestration in particular means there are many nascent developments in early stages of technical progress, commonly referred to as Appraise, Assess and Define stages, or stage gates. Emitter groups and sequestration project owners are aligning themselves on single overall CCS projects, requiring technical and commercial due diligence of the component elements of each overall CCS project. GaffneyCline is a global consultancy in the energy sector, providing techno-commercial advice to clients that include energy producers, industrial companies, financial institutions, governments and more.
